The first trailer for Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew has arrived, and we finally have a proper look at Netflix’s new take on C. S. Lewis’s world. The film follows Digory and Polly, played by David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell, as they discover the Wood between the Worlds and begin travelling between different realms using magical rings. Daniel Craig plays Digory’s uncle Andrew Ketterley, who opens the trailer by saying: “Sometimes one story is the beginning of all the others,” before sending the children on a journey that will eventually lead them to Narnia.
Set to Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven”, the trailer moves through the different worlds Digory and Polly encounter, including our first look at Emma Mackey as Jadis, the future White Witch and last Queen of Charn. There are magical creatures, strange landscapes, glimpses of Fledge the flying horse and, towards the end, the first look at Aslan, voiced by Meryl Streep, as Narnia is brought to life.

“Have you ever seen a world born?” the trailer asks before showing Aslan during the creation of Narnia, giving us one of the biggest moments from C. S. Lewis’s origin story. Gerwig is beginning her new series with The Magician’s Nephew rather than another adaptation of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, taking the story right back to how Narnia began and how some of its most familiar characters first entered that world.
The film is Gerwig’s first feature since Barbie in 2023 and brings together a cast including Craig, Mackey and Streep alongside McKenna and Campbell. The trailer also makes clear that this is going to be a big-screen release before it reaches Netflix, with the film opening worldwide in cinemas in February.
The Magician’s Nephew will begin IMAX previews on 10 February 2027, before opening in cinemas worldwide on 12 February. It will then arrive on Netflix on 2 April 2027.
For CultureCues, this trailer looks magical. We are huge fans of Narnia and C. S. Lewis, so we have been looking forward to seeing what Greta Gerwig would do with this world for a long time. She definitely was not joking when she described it as a fantasy rock-opera either, because “Stairway to Heaven” over the creation of Narnia is a pretty epic choice and gives the whole trailer a huge sense of scale. The cast is incredible, the world already feels full of wonder, and now we are even more excited to see where Gerwig takes it.
Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew opens in cinemas worldwide on 12 February 2027, before arriving on Netflix on 2 April 2027.
