The full trailer for Verity has arrived, bringing Colleen Hoover’s bestselling psychological thriller to the big screen with Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett at the centre of its twisty story. Amazon MGM Studios released the new footage today, ahead of the film’s cinema release on 2 October 2026.

Dakota Johnson stars as Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who is offered an opportunity she cannot easily turn down. Jeremy Crawford, played by Josh Hartnett, asks her to complete the bestselling book series written by his wife Verity Crawford after an accident leaves the author unable to walk or speak. Verity, played by Hathaway, had reportedly identified Lowen as the writer she wanted to finish her work, giving her another reason to accept the job and move into the Crawford family home.

It does not take long for Lowen to realise something is not right inside the house. The trailer shows her questioning Verity’s condition as she begins catching glimpses of the author watching her from windows and appearing unexpectedly around the home. At the same time, Lowen grows closer to Jeremy, complicating things further as Verity may be more aware of what is happening around her than anyone realises.

Things turn darker when Lowen discovers a flash drive containing Verity’s autobiography, with Hathaway narrating: “A writer’s words should be honest and bloody and a little bit terrifying,” as the manuscript reveals disturbing details about her relationship with Jeremy. Watch the trailer below.

The footage keeps the biggest answers hidden, leaving Lowen to question whether she is uncovering the truth about Verity or being manipulated herself. That uncertainty sits at the heart of Hoover’s original 2018 novel, and the trailer leans into it through Verity’s chilling narration. “I was his drug, and he was mine,” she says, before ending on the ominous line: “This is your final warning, only darkness ahead.”

Michael Showalter directs the adaptation, with Hathaway, Johnson and Hartnett leading the cast. Verity is currently scheduled for cinema release on 2 October 2026.

For CultureCues, Verity already had our attention as one of Colleen Hoover’s most gripping psychological thrillers, and this trailer has made us even more intrigued. Dakota Johnson and Anne Hathaway both look brilliant in their roles, with Hathaway especially unsettling as Verity. A few shots genuinely had us sitting forward, and that kiss definitely caught us off guard. We have plenty of questions, very little trust in anyone and this is firmly on our watchlist.

Verity will be released in cinemas on 2 October 2026.
