Netflix’s new Rafael Nadal documentary series Rafa is now streaming, taking a closer look at the tennis icon’s career, legacy and final chapter on the court. The four-part series arrives on Netflix today, adding another major sports documentary to the streamer’s growing line-up.

Directed by Zachary Heinzerling, Rafa follows Nadal’s remarkable journey from his beginnings as a young player to his return to competition in 2024. The series combines unseen moments with testimonies from those who know him best, both on and off the court, as it explores not only the making of a champion, but the physical and emotional toll behind one of the greatest careers in tennis history.

The documentary also focuses on what became Nadal’s most constant opponent: his own body. Across his career, the 22-time Grand Slam champion built a reputation for intensity, resilience and extraordinary endurance, but Rafa appears set to look beyond the trophies and into the pain, pressure and vulnerability that came with staying at the top for more than two decades.

For CultureCues, this sounds like exactly the kind of sports documentary that works even if you are not a die-hard tennis fan. Nadal’s career is already the stuff of sporting legend, but the promise of a more candid, emotional portrait gives Rafa something more personal to explore. A champion, a legacy, and one final battle against his own body? Netflix knows how to serve up a dramatic sports documentary.
