Netflix has released the first teaser trailer and new images for the fifth and final season of Outer Banks, confirming that the Pogues will return for one last adventure on 20 August 2026. Following the devastating conclusion to Season 4, John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope and Cleo are mourning the death of JJ, who was killed by his father, Chandler Groff, in Morocco. Groff escaped with the Blue Crown, leaving the group stranded far from home and determined to make him answer for what he did.

The teaser, set to alt-J’s “Left Hand Free,” makes their intentions immediately clear. “Let’s go get this son of a bitch,” John B declares, before the footage launches into the chases, confrontations and near escapes that have become central to the Pogues’ adventures. The final season finds the friends at breaking point as Groff remains at large and Dalia’s Corsairs close in. The Kooks have also left them without a home to return to, forcing the Pogues to rely on one another as they fight to reclaim their future.

They will not be working alone. Rafe joins through an uneasy alliance, although years of conflict mean trusting him will not come easily. The new images also show the characters behind bars and Cleo walking away as the beloved Twinkie burns, suggesting the road home will be far from straightforward.

Chase Stokes returns as John B alongside Madelyn Cline as Sarah, Madison Bailey as Kiara, Jonathan Daviss as Pope and Carlacia Grant as Cleo. Drew Starkey is also back as Rafe, with J. Anthony Crane returning as Chandler Groff. Austin North and Fiona Palomo reprise their roles as Topper and Sofia, while Pollyanna McIntosh returns as Dalia. Cullen Moss will once again appear as Shoupe.

Creators Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke previously revealed that they had always imagined Outer Banks as a five-season story and have known its final scene for some time. After years of treasure hunts and narrow escapes, the last season will bring the Pogues’ search for freedom to its conclusion.

For CultureCues, it is difficult to imagine Outer Banks without JJ, but placing his loss at the centre of the final mission gives the Pogues a personal reason to take one last ride. The teaser promises a finale driven by grief, friendship and revenge, and we are already preparing ourselves for an emotional goodbye. P4L, one last time.
