Netflix has confirmed that its new young-adult sports drama Crew Girl will premiere globally on 10 September 2026. The eight-episode series stars Miku Martineau as a teenage athlete forced to rebuild her life at an elite East Coast school. Martineau plays Teagan Tao, a gifted 16-year-old single sculler whose promising rowing career is disrupted by a family scandal. She relocates with her mother, Ella, played by Jessica Paré, and hopes to make a fresh start at the prestigious Easton Prep.
There is one immediate problem: Easton does not have a girls’ rowing team. Teagan’s only route back onto the water is to become the coxswain of the school’s notoriously difficult boys’ varsity crew, placing her in charge of steering the boat and directing a team that is not particularly interested in following her lead.
As Teagan tries to earn the rowers’ trust and reclaim her sporting ambitions, she is drawn into the competitive world surrounding Easton Prep, where old money and social divisions extend beyond the water.
Romance is also firmly on the course. Teagan finds herself caught between Josh Regis, the arrogant captain of the team, and Cam Dillinger, a determined local who has repeatedly been overlooked despite his potential. Sam Braun plays Josh, while Kyle Clark stars as Cam. The cast also includes Thomas Cadrot as Coach Matt Hayden. Vivian Lin serves as showrunner and executive producer, with the series produced by Blue Ant Studios.
For CultureCues, Crew Girl has all the makings of an easy autumn YA obsession. Setting the story within the rarely explored world of competitive rowing gives it something distinctive, while Easton Prep offers plenty of space for rivalries and romance to develop. We will wait until September before declaring ourselves Team Josh or Team Cam, although we suspect the internet may choose much sooner.
Crew Girl premieres on Netflix on 10 September 2026.
