KPop Demon Hunters is celebrating its first anniversary today with another major achievement, having now spent 52 consecutive weeks in Netflix’s Global Top 10. The animated musical arrived on the platform on 20 June 2025 and has remained in the rankings for an entire year.
The milestone gives the film the longest continuous Global Top 10 run in Netflix history, comfortably passing the previous record of 20 weeks held by Extraordinary Attorney Woo. It has also remained in the rankings far longer than major hits including Squid Game, Stranger Things 4, Wednesday and All Quiet on the Western Front, making its full-year streak even more remarkable.
Following K-pop superstars Rumi, Mira and Zoey as they protect their fans from supernatural threats, KPop Demon Hunters quickly grew beyond its original animated adventure. The film became Netflix’s most-watched title, while its characters and music inspired fan art, videos and theories from audiences around the world.

Its soundtrack has played a major role in that staying power. “Golden” became a chart-topping hit for fictional group HUNTR/X and won Best Song Written for Visual Media at the Grammys. It became the first K-pop song to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song, while the film took home Best Animated Feature.
The wider soundtrack has now passed 10 billion streams globally and became the first to place four songs inside the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 at the same time, which is, frankly, an insane achievement.
Co-director and creator Maggie Kang said the response had transformed the project into something shared by its audience. “It’s no longer just a movie; it’s become a global community,” she said, reflecting on fans embracing the characters from Seoul to Brazil and Los Angeles.

Netflix is marking the anniversary with special screenings, new merchandise and fan events. A global concert tour is in development with AEG Presents, bringing the music and world of HUNTR/X to live audiences.
Even better news for fans: a sequel is already in development, with Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans returning to direct. Plot details remain under wraps, but that has not stopped theories about Rumi, Mira and Zoey’s next adventure from taking over the fandom.
For CultureCues, the most impressive part of the film’s success is how naturally audiences have continued returning to it. The songs have stayed firmly in playlists, the characters inspired a devoted community and the demand for more has only grown. One year later, KPop Demon Hunters is still going up, up, up, and its golden era is nowhere near over. Every bit of this success feels deserved, and we cannot wait to see what comes next.
