The teaser trailer for Fall 2: Deadpoint has been released, and yes, the sequel appears to be just as stressful as expected. Signature Entertainment will release the survival thriller sequel in UK and Irish cinemas on 9 September, with Lionsgate handling the film’s US release.

Following the 2022 hit Fall, which stranded two friends at the top of a 2,000-foot radio tower, the new film takes the fear of heights to Thailand. This time, the danger moves to the perilous planks of Mount Kwan, where a dangerous climb quickly turns into a fight for survival.

The sequel follows Jax, played by Harriet Slater (Outlander: Blood of My Blood), who is still dealing with the loss of her fearless sister Hunter. She sets out on a dangerous climb with Hunter’s old friend, Luce, played by Arsema Thomas (Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story), in an attempt to honour her memory. When a rockslide leaves them stranded 5,000 feet above ground, Jax is forced to confront her fears while trying to survive.

Original director Scott Mann returns as co-writer alongside Jonathan Frank, with the pair having also written the first film together. The sequel comes from the producers of Obsession, with Michael and Peter Spierig, the filmmakers behind Predestination and Jigsaw, taking over directing duties. Tom Brittney also stars, with Virginia Gardner and Grace Caroline Currey appearing.

The first Fall became a surprise hit, grossing more than $21.8 million worldwide from a reported $3 million budget. The film also found a wider audience through home entertainment and streaming, helping turn the original high-concept thriller into a franchise, with a third film already in development.

The teaser does not give too much away, but it makes the film’s central threat very clear. There are narrow wooden planks, unstable footholds, steep drops and plenty of shots designed to make anyone with even a mild fear of heights immediately regret pressing play.

For CultureCues, Fall 2: Deadpoint already feels like one of those films we will watch through our fingers while insisting we are completely fine. The first film worked because the set-up was simple and horribly effective. Taking the story from a remote tower to the side of a mountain gives the sequel a fresh setting without losing the whole reason people turned up in the first place: pure, stomach-flipping tension. We already feel dizzy, which probably means the trailer has done its job…
