Netflix has released a new teaser for Blue Eye Samurai Season 2, confirming that Mizu’s revenge journey will continue in January 2027. The new season takes the Emmy-winning animated series beyond Japan and into London, picking up after Mizu set sail at the end of Season 1 in search of the remaining men connected to her past.

There is also some big news about the future of the series. Netflix has confirmed that Blue Eye Samurai will continue for a third season in 2028, which will bring Mizu’s story to an end.

When Is Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 Released?

Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 will arrive on Netflix in January 2027, although an exact date has not yet been announced. Netflix confirmed the new release window alongside the latest teaser on 21 August.

The number of episodes in Season 2 has also not yet been confirmed. Season 1 consisted of eight episodes, but Netflix has not announced whether the new season will follow the same format.

What Is Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 About?

Season 2 picks up with Mizu, voiced by Maya Erskine, heading for London as her bloody search for revenge continues. She is looking for the two remaining men who may be connected to her parentage, taking the story into a completely different world from the Edo-period Japan of the first season. Netflix says Mizu will encounter new friends, old enemies and her own demons as the hunt continues.

The story in Japan will also continue. Akemi and Taigen find themselves navigating Edo Castle under a dangerous new shogun, with Ringo searching for a new purpose after everything that happened in Season 1.

What Happens in the New Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 Teaser?

The teaser begins with Mizu at sea on the journey towards London, with a huge storm quickly turning the voyage into another fight for survival. It cuts between the rough waters and glimpses of London, showing just how different Mizu’s surroundings will be when she finally reaches Europe.

Things become increasingly dangerous as the ship is hit by the storm and members of the crew appear to be swept into the water. Mizu refuses to abandon her mission, once again choosing revenge before we see her unconscious and tied to part of the damaged ship. The teaser ends with a mysterious figure approaching her with a sword, leaving another question hanging over what awaits her on the journey ahead.

Creators Amber Noizumi and Michael Green have previously spoken about how interesting it will be to place Mizu within Western culture and see both how Europeans respond to her and how she reacts to them.

Who Is Returning for Blue Eye Samurai Season 2?

Maya Erskine returns as Mizu, with Brenda Song back as Akemi, Darren Barnet as Taigen and Masi Oka as Ringo. Netflix has not yet revealed the complete Season 2 voice cast, so further returning characters and new additions are still to be announced. Season 1 also featured Kenneth Branagh as Abijah Fowler, George Takei as Seki, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as the Swordmaker and Randall Park as Heiji Shindo, alongside Stephanie Hsu, Ming-Na Wen, Harry Shum Jr. and Mark Dacascos.

Is Blue Eye Samurai Ending With Season 3?

Yes. Netflix has now confirmed that Blue Eye Samurai will conclude with Season 3 in 2028, meaning the creators have two more seasons to complete Mizu’s story. That also means Season 2 is not being positioned as the end of her revenge journey. With London opening up a completely new part of the story and another season already confirmed beyond it, there is still plenty ahead before Mizu’s path reaches its conclusion.

For CultureCues, we have been waiting a long time to see where Mizu’s journey goes next, and moving the story to London is such an interesting way to open up Season 2. The new teaser looks gorgeous, the storm sequence already promises plenty of action and we are very curious to see Mizu dropped into a completely different culture. Knowing that Season 3 is already confirmed also means we can enjoy the next chapter without worrying whether the story will be left unfinished. Mizu still has plenty of revenge left to deliver.
