Gary Lineker’s brand-new celebrity game show The Box starts tonight, Saturday, 5 September, on ITV1 and ITVX. The first episode begins at 8:15pm and runs until 9:15pm, introducing 10 celebrities who have agreed to be driven around the country inside giant yellow boxes without knowing where they are going or what they will be asked to do when the doors open.

Tonight’s opening episode is titled “You Just Made a Monster” and begins the six-part competition, which gives its celebrity contestants physical, mental and logical challenges with little or no instruction. Joey Essex, John Bercow, Jenny Ryan, JB Gill, Danny Aarons, Ranvir Singh, Sara Davies, Graeme Souness, Ellie Taylor and Shakira Khan make up the line-up, with one celebrity eventually eliminated at the end of each episode.

What Time Is The Box On ITV Tonight?

The Box begins at 8:15pm tonight on ITV1 and ITVX, with viewers in Scotland also able to watch through STV and STV Player. Episode 1 runs for one hour, finishing at 9:15pm. There is not a long wait for the second episode either. The Box returns tomorrow night, Sunday, 6 September, at 8pm, giving the series a two-night opening weekend before the remaining episodes continue later this month.

What Happens in The Box?

Each celebrity begins inside their own yellow box before being taken to an unknown location. Once the doors open, they discover their surroundings and work out what challenge they are facing, sometimes with little instruction. At the end of the episode, the two lowest-performing celebrities face The Duel, with the loser leaving the competition. That means tonight will introduce the cast, Gary Lineker’s new presenting role and the first elimination of the series.

For CultureCues, we have been waiting to see how this format actually works on screen, and tonight we finally get to find out. The combination of giant mystery boxes, almost no instructions and this very random mix of celebrities has plenty of potential, and seeing Gary Lineker swap football for something completely different should be fun too.
