Good news! Acorn TV has renewed Art Detectives for a second season, with Stephen Moyer and Nina Singh returning for more murder cases connected to the world of art and antiques. In even better news for fans, they will not have to wait until next year for its return, as a two-part special arrives in December before the six-episode season follows in 2027. The renewal follows a successful first run, which became Acorn TV’s most-watched new series premiere when it launched in June 2025. Production on the eight new episodes begins this month in Belfast and across Northern Ireland.

Moyer stars as art-loving Detective Inspector Mick Palmer, who works alongside Nina Singh’s straight-talking DC Shazia Malik in the Heritage Crime Unit. Together, they investigate murders involving Old Master paintings, Banksy street art, rare antiquities and priceless collections.

Larry Lamb also returns as Mick’s charismatic father, Ron Palmer. Following the events of Season 1, the art forger is serving time in an open prison after handling the stolen Sickert painting recovered by Mick during the finale. “I’m really looking forward to filming these eight new episodes and reuniting with the brilliant Nina Singh,” Moyer said. The actor, who also serves as an executive producer, promised more drama, tension and surprises when Mick and Shazia return.

The series was created and written by Dan Gaster, Will Ing and Paul Powell, with Jennie Paddon, Declan Recks and Sam O’Mahony directing the new episodes. Black Dog Television, Dynamic Television and Acorn Media Enterprises produce with additional funding from Northern Ireland Screen.

For CultureCues, the combination of murder mysteries and the art world gave Art Detectives a fun hook from the beginning, while Stephen Moyer and Nina Singh made Mick and Shazia an easy investigative duo to follow. A two-part special before the full second season is also a welcome bonus, and we are ready to see which priceless objects cause trouble next.

Art Detectives returns with a two-part special on Acorn TV in December, followed by Season 2 in 2027.
