Masters of the Universe is now available to stream on Prime Video in the UK following its cinema release earlier this summer. The live-action adaptation of Mattel’s 1980s franchise arrived on the platform on Wednesday, 22 July.
Nicholas Galitzine stars as Prince Adam, who is led back to Eternia by the Sword of Power fifteen years after being separated from his home. He returns to find the planet under Skeletor’s rule and reunites with Teela and Duncan/Man-at-Arms as he finally embraces his destiny as He-Man.
Camila Mendes plays Teela, with Idris Elba as Duncan, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress and Jared Leto as Skeletor. James Purefoy also stars as King Randor. Bumblebee filmmaker Travis Knight directs the Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Studios production.
For CultureCues, this is an easy recommendation for anyone looking for a fun fantasy adventure this weekend. There is plenty of fun in He-Man’s sillier side, but the franchise itself never becomes the joke. The cast is excellent, with Galitzine and Mendes giving the story a likeable centre. Leto is especially fun as Skeletor, and the fight choreography is a real highlight. Its arrival on Prime Video gives Masters of the Universe another chance to find its audience, and we can easily see it becoming a cult favourite.
