Julie Andrews is getting a new feature-length documentary, coming to Disney+ in 2027. It will trace her journey from her early years in British vaudeville to global stardom, while also exploring the personal challenges, reinvention and determination that shaped her life beyond the spotlight.
The documentary is currently untitled, with its official name still to be announced. It will feature rare, never-before-seen archive footage alongside new interviews, offering a closer look at the woman behind Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music and The Princess Diaries. Disney says the film will move beyond Andrews’ best-known roles to explore the courage and resilience that helped shape her legacy.
R.J. Cutler, whose previous documentaries include Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry and Martha, directs and produces the film. He described Andrews as a “cultural touchstone” and said the documentary will explore the extraordinary challenges she has faced throughout her life.
The project is produced by This Machine, part of Sony Pictures Television. Cutler produces alongside Trevor Smith, Elise Pearlstein, Jane Cha Cutler and Jonathan Ruane, with Mark Blatty serving as executive producer.
