Channel 4 has recommissioned two lifestyle series from Yorkshire-based production company True North, with Yorkshire By The Sea returning for a second series and Devon & Cornwall renewed for a sixth. Both series have been ordered for five new episodes, continuing Channel 4’s focus on regional stories, local communities and the people living and working across some of the UK’s best-known coastal landscapes.

Yorkshire By The Sea will return to the Yorkshire coast, spanning North Yorkshire and neighbouring East Yorkshire. The series follows everyday grafters, local businesses and coastal communities from Saltburn and Scarborough to Spurn Point, with each episode told through the voices of the people who live there. It will also continue to explore how communities are responding to the realities of climate change, from protecting traditional ways of working to developing new ventures along the fast-eroding coastline.

Devon & Cornwall will return for five more episodes, following daily life across the South West through the stories of locals, farmers, fishermen, shopkeepers and those working in the tourist industry. The long-running series continues to offer a warm portrait of one of the UK’s best-known regions.

True North creative director Christian Hills said the team was looking forward to filming in Devon, Cornwall and along the Yorkshire coast, meeting “fantastic characters” and exploring “fascinating lives.”

“We’re delighted to be returning to both Yorkshire’s spectacular coastline and the beautiful South West with two much-loved series from our brilliant partners at True North.”

Jasper Hone – Channel 4 commissioning executive

Both series were commissioned for Channel 4 by Jasper Hone, commissioning executive, with Jo Street, director of commissioning, Nations & Regions and head of lifestyle. Christian Hills serves as executive producer for True North.

For CultureCues, this is a welcome recommission for Channel 4’s regional lifestyle slate. Both series give space to local voices and everyday stories, highlighting the people who keep these coastal communities moving. It is good to see Channel 4 continuing to back programmes that look beyond the usual TV hotspots.
