Nearly a decade after The Vampire Diaries came to an end, Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley are preparing to share the screen once again. The former co-stars will lead You Deserve to Know, a new murder-mystery drama currently in development at Hulu. Dobrev and Wesley will also serve as executive producers on the adaptation of Aggie Blum Thompson’s 2025 novel.

The story follows three married couples who are next-door neighbours and close friends. Their seemingly comfortable suburban lives are thrown into turmoil when one of the husbands is murdered, uncovering secrets that threaten to tear the entire friendship group apart.

Dobrev will play Gwen, while Wesley stars as Scott. The two characters are neighbours who find themselves on opposing sides of the murder investigation, placing them on what has been described as a collision course.

The casting carries plenty of history for The Vampire Diaries fans. Dobrev and Wesley starred as Elena Gilbert and Stefan Salvatore throughout the first six seasons, with Stelena at the centre of the show’s original romance before Elena later fell in love with Stefan’s brother Damon. Dobrev left the series as a regular at the end of Season 6 before returning for the finale, while Wesley remained part of the cast throughout all eight seasons. For longtime fans, seeing them together again will feel a little like returning to Mystic Falls.

You Deserve to Know will mark their first major on-screen reunion since the show ended in 2017. Dobrev shared the news on social media, saying that she and Wesley had both fallen in love with the novel and were excited to shape the adaptation on screen and behind the camera. Wesley also posted about the reunion, with Dobrev commenting: “Some partnerships have eternal life.”

Brian Tanen, whose previous credits include Love, Victor, Grand Hotel and Devious Maids, will write the adaptation. He executive produces alongside Thompson, Alex Cooper and members of Unwell and Kapital Entertainment. Kapital Entertainment and 20th Television are producing the project.

For CultureCues, whether you were Team Stelena or Team Delena, it is hard to imagine any The Vampire Diaries fan not being excited about this reunion. Dobrev and Wesley have remained close friends since the series ended, so seeing them back on screen together will already bring back plenty of TVD feels. This time, though, they are playing completely different characters on opposite sides of a murder investigation, which makes the whole thing even more interesting. We cannot wait to see them together again.

You Deserve to Know is currently in development at Hulu. A production date and release window have not yet been announced.
