Focus Features has released the first images from its new adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, offering an early look at Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles as the Dashwood sisters. Directed by Blue Jean filmmaker Georgia Oakley, the film will arrive in cinemas this October.
Edgar-Jones stars as the reserved Elinor Dashwood, while Creed-Miles plays her passionate younger sister Marianne. Bodhi Rae Breathnach appears as Margaret, with Caitríona Balfe completing the central family as their warm but impulsive mother, Mrs Dashwood.

Based on Jane Austen’s first published novel, the story follows the women after Mr Dashwood’s death leaves them financially vulnerable. Forced to leave their grand Sussex home for a modest Devonshire cottage, Elinor and Marianne must navigate love, money and the expectations placed on women in Regency society.
George MacKay, Frank Dillane and Fiona Shaw also star in the adaptation, which has been written by Love & Virtue novelist Diana Reid. Working Title Films and Focus Features are producing.
Oakley has said she wanted the period setting to appear lived-in rather than pristine, showing what life may genuinely have been like inside both grand estates and damp coastal cottages. The first photographs already introduce that earthier visual approach while placing the Dashwood women firmly at the centre.

For CultureCues, another Jane Austen adaptation is always welcome, particularly with Edgar-Jones and Balfe leading such a strong cast. The first images are beautiful without making Regency life appear too polished, and we are very ready to meet this new generation of Dashwoods.
Sense and Sensibility will arrive in cinemas in October 2026.
