Netflix has released the first teaser for Scooby-Doo: Origins, giving fans their first look at the franchise’s most famous Great Dane and revealing a major first for the long-running series. For the first time in more than 50 years of Scooby-Doo, Scooby himself will be portrayed as a real dog in a live-action project.
The teaser sees Scooby sniffing around the woods before spotting Shaggy Rogers, played by Tanner Hagen. The short clip ends with fans getting their first glimpse of the floppy-eared pup wearing his iconic teal collar while being held by his future best friend.

Set to premiere globally on Netflix in 2027, Scooby-Doo: Origins is described as a modern reimagining of the classic mystery-solving gang and the case that first brought Mystery Inc. together. The series follows old friends Shaggy and Daphne Blake, played by Mckenna Grace, during their final summer at camp. Their lives are turned upside down when they become involved in a mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have witnessed a supernatural murder.
Joining them are Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones. Together, the group must solve a mystery that pulls them into a nightmare threatening to expose all of their secrets. Paul Walter Hauser has also joined the cast in an undisclosed role.

The series comes from Netflix and Warner Bros. Television, with showrunners Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg executive producing alongside André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, Adrienne Erickson, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman. Toby Haynes will direct and executive produce the premiere episode.
Scooby-Doo remains one of the most enduring franchises in entertainment. Since debuting in 1969, the property has spawned multiple live-action films, more than a dozen animated series and nearly 40 animated movies, introducing Mystery Inc. to generation after generation of fans.
For CultureCues, the biggest surprise here is not that Netflix is making another Scooby-Doo adaptation. It is that they have finally decided to make Scooby an actual dog. It sounds obvious, but it is something the franchise has never really done before. The cast also feels promising, particularly with Mckenna Grace involved, and the camp setting gives the series a slightly darker, more nostalgic starting point than audiences might expect. Zoinks. Scooby snacks at the ready for this one.
