Two Doors Down is heading back to Latimer Crescent, with BBC One commissioning an eighth series of the hit Glasgow-set sitcom. The new episodes will feature the show’s regular characters, with the story picking up after the 2025 Christmas special.

The series will once again follow Beth and Eric, played by Arabella Weir and Alex Norton, as they try to hold on to the dream of a quiet life. Unfortunately for them, neighbours Colin, Cathy and Christine, played by Jonathan Watson, Doon Mackichan and Elaine C. Smith, are still very much nearby.

Series eight will also see Michelle, played by Joy McAvoy, preparing for a new arrival, while Gordon, played by Kieran Hodgson, throws himself into further education. Alan, played by Graeme Stevely, and Ian, played by Jamie Quinn, return as the show drops viewers back into the familiar world of Latimer Crescent.

A Return to Latimer Crescent

Created by Gregor Sharp and the late Simon Carlyle, Two Doors Down began as a one-off special in 2013 before becoming a full series in 2016. Over the years, the sitcom has built a loyal audience with its painfully recognisable portrait of suburban neighbourly life, where a quiet night in can be ruined by one unexpected knock at the door. Sharp, who wrote last year’s Christmas special, said it had been “a lot of fun putting the band back together” and that he was excited to return with new episodes. He also praised the cast as “the most talented group of performers you could wish for.”

BBC Director of Comedy Jon Petrie said the team are still making “a world that audiences properly love spending time in,” adding that the BBC is proud to bring the sitcom back for another series. Louise Thornton, Head of Commissioning for BBC Scotland, also said it was “fantastic” to return to Latimer Crescent and the characters loved by audiences across the country.

A Scottish Sitcom Favourite Is Back

For CultureCues, this is exactly the kind of return that feels worth celebrating. Two Doors Down has always found comedy in the smallest domestic disasters, from awkward visits to neighbourly oversharing, and that is a huge part of why it has lasted. There is also something very Scottish about the show’s ability to turn ordinary social discomfort into half an hour of perfectly judged comedy. Beth and Eric may want peace, but let’s be honest, nobody is watching Two Doors Down for peace.

Broadcast dates for the eighth series have not yet been announced.
