Off Campus arrives on Prime Video tomorrow, bringing Elle Kennedy’s hugely popular hockey romance series to screen with a first season centred on The Deal. The new romantic drama follows Hannah Wells, played by Ella Bright, a music student who wants nothing to do with ice hockey, and Garrett Graham, played by Belmont Cameli, Briar University’s star player. Their worlds collide when Hannah agrees to tutor Garrett, while Garrett agrees to help make her crush jealous. It is fake dating, tangled college feelings, emotional baggage and ice-rink yearning all rolled into one very bingeable package.

Official synopsis: “A college soap based on the bestselling book series, Off Campus follows an elite ice hockey team, and the women in their lives, as they grapple with love, heartbreak, and self-discovery, forging deep friendships and enduring bonds while navigating the complexities that come with transitioning into adulthood. Season 1 follows the sexy and fun ‘opposites attract’ romance between quiet songwriter Hannah and Briar University’s all-star hockey athlete Garrett.”

Based on Kennedy’s bestselling Off-Campus book series, the show has already built up a loud fan reaction online, with readers watching closely to see how Hannah and Garrett’s story makes the jump from page to screen. Prime Video has leaned into the hype too, teasing the series with the line: “Careful on that ice. You just might fall for each other.”

The first season stars Ella Bright and Belmont Cameli alongside Mika Abdalla, Antonio Cipriano, Jalen Thomas Brooks and Stephen Thomas Kalyn, with Louisa Levy developing the adaptation for Prime Video. The show has also already been renewed for a second season, which says a lot about how much confidence Amazon has in the Briar University universe.

For CultureCues, this feels very much like one for the BookTok romantics, the fake-dating obsessives and anyone still waiting for their next ice hockey fixation after Heated Rivalry. The setup is classic for a reason: two people who think they have each other figured out, a deal that should definitely stay fake, and the kind of chemistry that makes pretending feel like a terrible idea.

Basically, cancel your Wednesday plans. Love is a contact sport now.

Off Campus premieres on Prime Video on Wednesday 13 May.
