Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Practical Magic 2, bringing Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman back as the Owens sisters 28 years after the original film became a cult favourite.
Based on Alice Hoffman’s The Book of Magic, the sequel returns to the world of the Owens family as Sally and Gilly are forced to confront a dark curse tied to their family’s past, just as a new generation begins to get caught up in the magic. The trailer leans into the cosy, witchy atmosphere fans remember, while also hinting at higher stakes and a story that digs deeper into the family’s legacy.
Alongside Bullock and Kidman, the cast includes Joey King, Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña and Solly McLeod, with Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest also returning as the aunts. The film is directed by Susanne Bier, with a script from Akiva Goldsman and Georgia Pritchett.
For CultureCues, Practical Magic 2 already feels like a welcome return, with the trailer blending nostalgia, family drama and just the right amount of magic in a way that longtime fans will likely love.
Practical Magic 2 arrives in cinemas on 11 September.
