Warner Bros. has released the main trailer for Barbie, offering the clearest look yet at Greta Gerwig’s candy-coloured take on the world’s most famous doll ahead of its cinema release on 21 July, and only adding to the huge buzz already surrounding the film.

Starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, the film follows Barbie as she leaves Barbieland and heads into the human world in search of something more meaningful after her seemingly perfect life begins to crack. The new trailer leans further into the film’s playful absurdity, from dance numbers and rollerblading to existential questions and, perhaps most alarmingly of all, flat feet.

Alongside Robbie and Gosling, the cast includes Will Ferrell, Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Michael Cera, America Ferrera, Ncuti Gatwa, Emerald Fennell, Rhea Perlman and Kingsley Ben-Adir. Warner Bros. also confirmed that Barbie: The Album is on the way, with Dua Lipa’s Dance the Night leading the soundtrack.

For CultureCues, Barbie already looks like one of the most exciting releases of the summer, with the trailer promising a film that is playful, stylish and full of the kind of pink, pop energy that makes it impossible not to be excited.

Barbie arrives in UK cinemas on 21 July 2023.
