A24 has released the trailer for Onslaught, the new action-horror film from director Adam Wingard. The film stars Adria Arjona as an Army sniper forced to protect her young daughter when a rogue squad of genetically engineered super soldiers breaks loose in the desert. The trailer sets up a violent survival story, with Arjona’s character dragged back into combat mode as the threat closes in.

The cast also includes Dan Stevens, Rebecca Hall, Drew Starkey, Eric Wareheim, Reginald VelJohnson, Michael Biehn and Alex Pereira, who plays The Butcher. Wingard directs from a script by Simon Barrett, based on a story by Wingard and Barrett. The pair previously worked together on You’re Next and The Guest, making Onslaught a notable return to the kind of original genre filmmaking that helped build Wingard’s reputation.

The trailer points to a film mixing military action, horror and survival thriller elements, with super soldiers described as a “new kind of weapon” and the “human equivalent of a heat-seeking missile.”

For CultureCues, Onslaught already has the makings of a very loud, very bloody A24 genre release. Adria Arjona leading an action-horror film from Adam Wingard is enough to get our attention, and the super-soldier set-up suggests this could be a fun, explosive ride. We are definitely looking forward to this one.

Onslaught is set for release in US cinemas on 4 September. A UK release date has not yet been confirmed.

Major news, Swifties: Taylor Swift has announced “I Knew It, I Knew You,” a brand-new original song for Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5. The track, written and produced by Swift and Jack Antonoff, will be released on 5 June ahead of the film’s cinema release on 19 June. It will also feature on the official Toy Story 5 soundtrack when the film arrives in cinemas later this month.

The announcement follows days of fan speculation after a series of “TS” billboards appeared, with the initials playing on both Toy Story and Taylor Swift. A themed countdown also appeared on Swift’s official website, prompting fans to start piecing together the clues before the news was officially confirmed.

According to Disney, “I Knew It, I Knew You” is inspired by Jessie’s journey in Toy Story 5, continuing the character’s story from Toy Story 2. The song is also described as a return to Swift’s country roots, blending that earlier sound with the songwriting style that has defined much of her career.

Image credit: © Taylor Swift via Instagram

Swift shared her excitement about writing for the franchise, saying she had dreamed of creating something for the characters since watching the first Toy Story as a child. She also revealed that she wrote the song after seeing an early version of the film, adding: “Sometimes you just know, right?”

Toy Story 5 director and screenwriter Andrew Stanton praised Swift’s connection to Jessie, saying the song felt deeply tied to the film and calling the collaboration “kismet.”

For CultureCues, this announcement is major. We are huge Toy Story fans and huge Taylor Swift fans, so putting the two together? Naturally, we are seated. We cannot wait to hear “I Knew It, I Knew You,” and we have a feeling plenty of fans are already right there with us, ready for Pixar to break our hearts all over again.

It’s a Toy Story, baby, just say yes.

Toy Story 5 is due in cinemas on 19 June.

A24’s Backrooms has broken box-office records after opening to a huge $118 million globally. The new horror film, directed by YouTube creator Kane Parsons, earned $81.4 million at the domestic box office and $118 million worldwide during its opening weekend, making it A24’s biggest-ever debut.

The result also makes Backrooms the biggest horror opening of 2026 so far, following a strong year for the genre that has already included major performances from Scream 7, Send Help and Obsession.

In the UK and Ireland, Backrooms also topped the weekend box office with £4.3 million, setting a new record for the biggest opening for an original horror film in the territory. Using a GBP to USD conversion rate of 1.34, that works out at roughly $5.8 million.

The film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve and follows a therapist and her patient as they discover a dimension of endless liminal spaces beneath a store. Parsons makes his feature directorial debut, after first developing Backrooms as a viral web series inspired by internet horror mythology.

Image credit: © A24. Courtesy of A24 Press

The opening is a major result for A24, which has steadily built a strong identity in horror with films including Hereditary, Talk to Me and Midsommar. Backrooms has now taken that reputation into blockbuster territory, giving the studio one of its biggest commercial moments yet.

For CultureCues, this is a fascinating box-office story because it says a lot about where horror is heading. Backrooms began as internet lore, grew through YouTube and has now turned into a record-breaking cinema release. That is a huge leap, and one that shows how online horror culture can move from niche obsession to mainstream event when the audience is already waiting for it. It is also a pretty wild moment for A24. The studio has spent years building trust with horror fans, and Backrooms appears to have turned that trust into a full box-office phenomenon. The liminal spaces have officially gone mainstream.

Charli xcx’s A24 film The Moment is now streaming on HBO Max in the US. The film, which began streaming on 29 May, stars Charli xcx alongside Rosanna Arquette, Kate Berlant, Jamie Demetriou, Arielle Dombasle, Hailey Benton Gates, Kylie Jenner, Trew Mullen, Mel Ottenberg, Isaac Powell, Rachel Sennott, Rish Shah, Alexander Skarsgård and Michael Workéyè. It will also debut on HBO’s linear channel in the US on 30 May at 8pm ET.

Directed by Aidan Zamiri, The Moment follows a rising pop star as she prepares for her first arena tour while navigating fame, industry pressure and the strange disorientation that comes with suddenly getting everything you thought you wanted. The film is written by Zamiri and Bertie Brandes, based on an original idea by Charli xcx. Charli also produces alongside David Hinojosa.

Set after the phenomenon of brat, The Moment plays with the idea of pop stardom in real time, following Charli through the aftermath of a career-defining summer as the machine around her tries to keep the momentum going. Rather than presenting itself as a straightforward tour documentary, the film leans into satire, fiction and self-awareness, turning the pressure of a huge cultural moment into the story itself.

For CultureCues, this is such a perfect little pop culture collision. Charli xcx, A24, Rachel Sennott, Kylie Jenner and Alexander Skarsgård in a meta film about fame, art and the business of being a pop star? That is very much our kind of strange, stylish viewing. The brat era already became a full cultural event, and The Moment sounds like the film version of asking what happens when the party is still going, but the person at the centre of it is already wondering what comes next.

The trailer for In the Hand of Dante, Netflix’s new historical epic from Julian Schnabel, has been released. Adapted from Nick Tosches’ 2002 novel, the film follows two men, both played by Oscar Isaac, across different centuries as their lives become connected through Dante Alighieri’s The Divine Comedy.

Isaac plays both New York author Nick Tosches in the 21st century and Dante Alighieri in the 14th century. In the present-day storyline, Tosches is recruited by a mafia don and pulled into a violent search for a manuscript of The Divine Comedy said to have been written in Dante’s own hand. Centuries earlier, Dante is searching for the inspiration to write the work that will define his name.

The film features a huge ensemble cast, including Gal Gadot, Gerard Butler, John Malkovich, Louis Cancelmi, Sabrina Impacciatore, Franco Nero, Benjamin Clementine and Paolo Bonacelli. Martin Scorsese, Al Pacino and Jason Momoa also feature, giving Schnabel’s latest work one of the year’s most striking casts.

Schnabel directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Louise Kugelberg. It marks his latest feature since At Eternity’s Gate, the Oscar-nominated Vincent Van Gogh portrait starring Willem Dafoe. Producers on In the Hand of Dante include Jon Kilik, Francesco Melzi d’Eril, Olmo Schnabel, Gabriele Bebe Moratti, Vito Schnabel and Julian Schnabel. The film debuted at the Venice Film Festival last year and is also set to screen at the Tribeca Festival before its release, giving it an impressive festival path before it reaches wider audiences.

In the Hand of Dante. Gerard Butler as Louie in In the Hand of Dante. Cr. Alex Majoli/ITHOD Productions Ltd. © 2026.

For CultureCues, this is one of those trailers where the cast list alone is enough to make people stop scrolling. Oscar Isaac taking on two roles across two timelines already gives In the Hand of Dante a bold centre, and adding Martin Scorsese, Al Pacino and John Malkovich around him only makes it more intriguing. The premise has plenty going on too, with a stolen manuscript, a dangerous present-day journey and Dante’s search for inspiration giving Schnabel a lot to play with. Whether it becomes a grand meditation on art or simply a very strange, star-packed epic, this is certainly not short on ambition.

In the Hand of Dante is set for a limited theatrical release on 12 June, before arriving on Netflix on 24 June.

A24 has released the first trailer for Primetime, starring Robert Pattinson as Chris Hansen in a crime-TV drama inspired by To Catch a Predator. The film is directed by Lance Oppenheim and follows Hansen in 2006 as he sets out to make television history.

The teaser gives audiences a first look at Pattinson as the Dateline NBC journalist, capturing the early days of the controversial predator-sting format that became a major part of mid-2000s television. It is an instantly intriguing trailer, not least because Pattinson’s voice is almost unrecognisable here, adding another reminder of his range and just how far he can disappear into a role. Rather than presenting the story as a straightforward true-crime drama, Primetime appears to be digging into the uneasy pull of televised crime, where public service and ratings-driven spectacle can become difficult to separate.

Oppenheim makes his narrative feature debut with the film after directing documentary projects including Some Kind of Heaven, Spermworld and HBO’s Ren Faire. Given his background in observational documentary, Primetime feels like a natural fit for a story about cameras and the making of televised reality.

Alongside Pattinson, the cast includes Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo and Phoebe Bridgers, who makes her feature acting debut. Pattinson also produces through his Icki Eneo Arlo banner alongside A24.

For CultureCues, this is exactly the kind of A24 project that immediately catches our attention. Pattinson playing Chris Hansen is enough to make Primetime stand out, but the subject gives it an even stronger hook. The trailer points to a story about how To Catch a Predator became a TV phenomenon, while also raising questions about the line between exposing crime and turning it into entertainment.

A24 has not yet confirmed an exact release date for Primetime, though the film is expected to arrive in cinemas later this year. Watch the official teaser below.

Netflix has released the trailer for Enola Holmes 3, giving fans a new look at Millie Bobby Brown’s return as the brilliant young detective ahead of the film’s arrival on 1 July.

The third instalment follows Enola to Malta, where adventure once again finds her in spectacular fashion. According to the official logline, “Adventure chases detective Enola Holmes to Malta, where personal and professional dreams collide on a case more tangled and treacherous than any she has faced before.”

The trailer opens with Enola and Tewkesbury looking very much in love, dancing, laughing and enjoying what appears to be a rare stretch of happiness. “Life was everything I wanted it to be,” Enola says. “When it was just the two of us, those were the best times of all.” Of course, peace does not last long.

“Life was everything I wanted it to be. When it was just the two of us, those were the best times of all.”

Things take a dramatic turn when Tewkesbury proposes, leaving Enola visibly stunned as her personal life suddenly becomes much more complicated. Then comes the real twist: Sherlock has been kidnapped. Cue action, fire, fights, danger, Enola in a wedding dress with a shotgun, and Tewkesbury waiting at the altar while his bride-to-be is pulled into another case. The big question now: will she make it down the aisle?

Enola Holmes 3.
Brown returns as Enola Holmes alongside Louis Partridge as Tewkesbury, Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes, Helena Bonham Carter as Eudoria Holmes, Himesh Patel as Dr John Watson and Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Moriarty. The trailer also confirms an appearance from Jason Watkins, though details about his character are still being kept under wraps.

Watch the official teaser trailer below.

Video: Enola Holmes 3 | Official Teaser | Netflix via YouTube

The new film is based on Nancy Springer’s Enola Holmes book series, with Jack Thorne returning as writer after penning the first two films. Philip Barantini directs the third instalment, following acclaimed recent work on Boiling Point and Netflix’s Adolescence.

For CultureCues, this trailer looks like exactly the kind of return Enola fans have been waiting for. The romance with Tewkesbury is clearly front and centre, but the Sherlock twist gives the film a bigger, more urgent mystery to solve. Plus, Enola wielding a shotgun in a wedding dress? We are absolutely seated.

Enola Holmes 3 arrives on Netflix on 1 July. The first two films are available to stream now on Netflix.

Netflix has released the first trailer for The Marked Woman, the upcoming mystery thriller starring Candela Peña, Ana Rujas and Pol López. Alongside the trailer, the streamer has also shared new posters and images from the film ahead of its global premiere on 5 June.

Directed by Gabe Ibáñez and written by Lara Sendim, the film follows detective Anna Ripoll, played by Peña, after a woman is discovered bound and gagged inside a shipping container at the Port of Barcelona with no memory of who she is or how she got there. The cast also includes Manolo Solo, Luka Peros and Kira Miró.

As Anna teams up with officer Quique Zárate, played by López, the investigation quickly becomes a race against time to uncover the woman’s identity and the secrets buried within her fractured memory. Rujas stars as the mysterious woman at the centre of the case.

The Marked Woman is adapted from the novel by Rosa Montero and Olivier Truc. The film is produced by K&S Films, the company behind The Eternaut and the Oscar-nominated Wild Tales. K&S Films has built a strong reputation across the Ibero-American film and television industry, producing acclaimed titles including The Clan, The Angel and Division Palermo, which won the International Emmy for Best Comedy.

The trailer for The Marked Woman looks tense from the start, building a mystery around Anna’s investigation and the unidentified woman at the centre of it. Between the port setting, shadowy corridors and the sight of her taking on a man while still in a hospital gown, the footage suggests there is more to this woman than her lost memory. There is also a strong psychological edge, with the sense that she has forgotten something crucial about herself, and that uncovering the truth could be just as dangerous as the crime itself.

For CultureCues, the trailer has definitely piqued our interest. The Barcelona setting already gives the film a distinct visual identity, while the mystery around who this woman is, what happened to her and what she may have forgotten gives The Marked Woman a classic suspense-thriller hook. For fans of crime dramas, this already feels like one to add to the Netflix watchlist.

Prepare to say “hi” to one final Heartstopper summer. Netflix has shared new photos from Heartstopper Forever, giving fans a fresh look at Kit Connor and Joe Locke as Nick Nelson and Charlie Spring ahead of the YA romance’s farewell film. The feature-length conclusion will premiere on Netflix on 17 July, bringing Alice Oseman’s beloved coming-of-age story to an emotional close after three seasons.

Written by Heartstopper creator, executive producer and graphic novelist Alice Oseman, Heartstopper Forever continues from season three, which saw Nick, Charlie and their friends taking major steps in their relationships, identities and futures. Connor and Locke also serve as executive producers for the first time.

Kit Connor has also reflected on the significance of saying goodbye to Nick and Charlie, telling Netflix’s press materials: “These characters have meant a lot to us over the years.” Connor added that executive producing the film helped them close this chapter “in a way that feels the most right,” while Joe Locke spoke about the series’ lasting impact, saying: “This show has meant so much to me in my life. I’ll always carry that with me.”

According to Netflix, Heartstopper Forever finds Nick and Charlie inseparable after the events of season three, but change is quickly approaching. With Nick preparing to leave for university and Charlie finding a new sense of independence at school, the reality of a long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them.

For a couple whose story has been built around first love and the comfort of finding someone who truly sees you, this final chapter looks set to ask a bigger, more grown-up question: can that first love survive when everything around it starts to change?

Oseman has described the film as an exploration of “time, memory, love, pain, the changing of the seasons, endings and beginnings,” as well as the everyday magic that has always sat at the heart of Heartstopper. The film will also follow Nick and Charlie’s wider friendship group as they navigate their own futures, with love, friendship and growing up pulling everyone in new directions.

The story will be based on Oseman’s upcoming sixth and final Heartstopper graphic novel, which brings Nick and Charlie’s journey to its conclusion. Oseman has teased that the final book explores Charlie gaining confidence and independence, while Nick faces questions about his future and memories from his past.

A Farewell Film Instead of Another Season

While some fans may have expected Heartstopper to end with a fourth season, Oseman has said the movie format gives the team a different kind of creative space. Without the need for episode-by-episode cliffhangers, Oseman said the film can take a more focused approach, aiming for something “memorable, sophisticated, and atmospheric.” That sounds fitting for a series that has always worked best when it slows down and lets the small details matter, from nervous glances and quiet conversations to the little animated flourishes.

For CultureCues, a feature-length farewell feels like a great way to close this chapter. Heartstopper has always found power in the everyday moments that make Nick and Charlie’s relationship feel real, so giving them one final film could allow their story to end with the care and space it deserves. There is also something very Heartstopper about choosing to end on a story about change. This has never just been a romance about two boys falling in love. It has been about friendship, identity, mental health, chosen family and learning how to grow without losing the people who helped you become yourself.

If Heartstopper Forever can capture that warmth while giving Nick and Charlie a conclusion worthy of the love fans have poured into them, Netflix may have one very emotional summer farewell on its hands.

Heartstopper Forever premieres on Netflix on 17 July.

Alan Cumming has revealed that he is joining Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5, with the actor set to voice Evil Bullseye in a cameo appearance. The actor, who currently hosts The Traitors US, will lend his voice to Bullseye’s playtime alter ego in the upcoming animated sequel. Bullseye has appeared in the franchise since Toy Story 2, but Woody’s trusty steed has never traditionally spoken before, making Cumming’s involvement a fun first for the character.

Speaking about the role, Cumming described joining the Toy Story universe as an “incredible honour”, adding that he was “so happy and proud and in disbelief” to be part of the film. He also noted that fans should not expect too much from the appearance, as it is a cameo, but teased that the circumstances of Bullseye speaking will make sense once audiences see the film.

Toy Story 5 sees Woody, voiced by Tom Hanks, Buzz Lightyear, voiced by Tim Allen, Jessie, voiced by Joan Cusack, and the rest of the gang face a very modern threat. This time, the toys come up against Lilypad, a new tablet device voiced by Greta Lee, whose ideas about what is best for Bonnie put playtime under pressure.

(L-R): Woody and Buzz Lightyear in Disney and Pixar’s TOY STORY 5. Photo courtesy of Pixar. © 2026 Disney/Pixar. All Rights Reserved.

The film is directed by Andrew Stanton, co-directed by Kenna Harris and produced by Lindsey Collins. Randy Newman also returns to compose the score for his fifth Toy Story feature.

The wider voice cast includes Conan O’Brien, Scarlett Spears, Shelby Rabara, Mykal-Michelle Harris, Craig Robinson, Bonnie Hunt, Lori Alan, Jay Hernandez, Wallace Shawn, Kristen Schaal, Tony Hale, Annie Potts, John Ratzenberger, Keanu Reeves and more.

For CultureCues, Alan Cumming voicing Evil Bullseye is exactly the sort of unexpected casting detail that makes a Pixar sequel feel instantly more intriguing. Toy Story 5 already has a smart hook with its “Toy meets Tech” premise, but giving Bullseye a playful alter ego adds another little spark of weirdness to the mix. Add a Scottish icon into the Toy Story universe, and naturally our interest goes up a notch. If anyone was going to make a talking version of Bullseye feel wonderfully theatrical, it was Alan Cumming.

Toy Story 5 releases exclusively in cinemas on 19 June 2026.

Power Ballad, the new music comedy-drama from Once and Sing Street director John Carney, opens in UK and Irish cinemas this week. The film stars Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas and will be released in cinemas on Friday 29 May 2026.

Directed by Carney and co-written with Peter McDonald, Power Ballad follows Rick, a past-his-prime wedding singer played by Rudd, who meets fading boy-band star Danny, played by Jonas, during a gig. After the pair bond over music and a late-night jam session, Danny turns one of Rick’s songs into a hit, sending Rick on a desperate quest to reclaim the recognition he believes he deserves.

The film continues Carney’s long-running interest in stories about music and people trying to find their way back to themselves. After Once, Begin Again, Sing Street and Flora and Son, Power Ballad brings him back to the kind of heartfelt, music-led storytelling he does so well, this time through a comic clash over ownership, ego and the very awkward business of turning personal art into someone else’s hit. For a filmmaker who has always understood the emotion behind a song, this sounds like a fun new riff on familiar themes.

Jack Reynor also stars, reteaming with Carney after appearing in Sing Street, Flora and Son and an episode of Modern Love. The cast also includes Marcella Plunkett and Havana Rose Liu.

Carney has described musically themed films as stories “meant to be watched together,” saying the film was designed to be experienced “with a crowd, in the dark, next to strangers who, for a few hours, become friends.”

For CultureCues, this already feels like the sort of John Carney film worth making a cinema trip for. His best stories understand that music is rarely just about the song itself, and Power Ballad looks ready to turn that idea into a funny, heartfelt fight for credit. With Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas leading it, this is firmly on our watchlist.

Power Ballad opens in UK and Irish cinemas on 29 May 2026.

Woken arrives on UK digital platforms today, 25 May, bringing Erin Kellyman (Willow, Solo: A Star Wars Story) and Maxine Peake (Happy Valley, Black Mirror) together for a claustrophobic dystopian sci-fi thriller. Released via 101 Films, the film marks Alan Friel’s feature directorial debut.

The film follows Anna, played by Kellyman, a heavily pregnant woman who wakes up on a remote island with no memory of who she is, where she is or the baby she is carrying. Around her are unfamiliar faces who claim to know her, including her husband James, played by Ivanno Jeremiah, and neighbour Helen, played by Maxine Peake. Corrado Invernizzi also stars as Helen’s husband Peter.

At first, Anna is told she has suffered an accident and must piece her life back together through reassurances, fragments and grainy home videos. But the island’s uneasy calm does not last. As Anna begins to question the version of events being handed to her, she discovers that a pandemic has pushed humanity towards collapse, leaving her trapped inside a story where trust may be the most dangerous thing of all.

Written and directed by Friel, Woken moves between psychological mystery and post-apocalyptic tension, with its sci-fi horror elements building through Anna’s fractured memory. Reviews have pointed to the film’s isolated setting and brooding atmosphere, while Kellyman and Peake help drive the story’s growing sense of paranoia and control as the truth begins to unravel.

For CultureCues, this is exactly the kind of genre release worth keeping an eye on. A remote island, missing memories, a pregnant protagonist and Maxine Peake potentially hiding far more than she is saying? That is a solid set-up for a tense night in. With its mix of pandemic dread, unreliable memories and survival thriller energy, Woken should appeal to viewers who like their sci-fi intimate, eerie and full of suspicion.

Woken is available on UK digital platforms from 25 May 2026.

A first-look featurette for The Death of Robin Hood has been released from A24, offering a new glimpse at Michael Sarnoski’s reimagining of the Robin Hood legend. Hugh Jackman stars as an older, battle-worn Robin Hood, alongside Jodie Comer, Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett and Noah Jupe.

Set to arrive in cinemas on 19 June 2026, the film takes a much darker look at the famous outlaw and the myth built around him. According to the official description, Robin Hood is grappling with his past after “a life of crime and murder” when he is gravely injured after a battle he believed would be his last. In the care of a mysterious woman, he is offered a possible chance at salvation.

Image Credit: © Courtesy of A24 Press

It is a very different pitch from the usual merry-men-in-the-forest version of the story. This version of Robin Hood appears worn down by the legend people have built around him, with Jackman playing him as a man carrying the weight of the violence, myth and reputation that have followed him.

Jodie Comer plays Sister Brigid, the mysterious woman who takes Robin in after he is gravely injured, though her role in his possible salvation is still being kept close to the chest. Skarsgård joins the cast as Little John, while Sarnoski, who previously directed Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One, feels like a particularly interesting fit for a Robin Hood story about a man trying to make sense of the violence that made him famous.

Image Credit: © Courtesy of A24 Press

Earlier first-look coverage also positioned the film as a brutal, grounded take on the legend, with Sarnoski describing the fighting as close to a “war movie” and Jackman calling the story “beautiful and human.” The earlier trailer made that darker angle clear from the start, with a voiceover saying: “People speak of Robin Hood, tell his stories. They’re all lies. He was not a hero. He were a murderous brigand.” This is not a version of the legend looking for easy hero worship. It seems to be asking what happens when the stories people tell about a man no longer match the life he actually lived.

At CultureCues, this is exactly the kind of A24 project that immediately catches our attention. Hugh Jackman as an older Robin Hood reckoning with a violent past already sounds compelling, and the striking first-look visuals only add to the intrigue. Add Jodie Comer, Bill Skarsgård and Michael Sarnoski into the mix, and this becomes one of those bold reimaginings we will absolutely be watching.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu arrives in UK cinemas on 22 May 2026, bringing Din Djarin and Grogu back for a new big-screen adventure. The Lucasfilm release sees Pedro Pascal return as the Mandalorian, with Jon Favreau directing the film after helping turn the Disney+ series into one of the franchise’s biggest modern success stories.

The film marks a major return to cinemas for Star Wars, following the franchise’s recent focus on streaming series including The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi. This time, Din Djarin and Grogu are making the jump from Disney+ to theatrical release, with the story picking up in a galaxy still dealing with the fallout of the Empire’s collapse.

According to the official synopsis, Imperial warlords remain scattered across the galaxy as the New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for. To help with that mission, they enlist legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu.

The trailer leans into plenty of familiar Star Wars territory, from shadowy corners of the galaxy to returning species, dangerous enemies and Grogu getting into the kind of tiny trouble only he can. The film also brings the Hutts back into play, with Jeremy Allen White voicing Rotta the Hutt, son of Jabba the Hutt.

Sigourney Weaver also joins the cast as Colonel Ward, while the film features music from Ludwig Göransson, whose work has helped define the sound of The Mandalorian since its Disney+ debut.

For CultureCues, there is something genuinely exciting about seeing The Mandalorian and Grogu make the move back to the big screen. The series has always had a cinematic sweep to it, but placing Din and Grogu in a full theatrical Star Wars adventure gives their story a bigger canvas, and probably the largest popcorn-friendly Grogu experience imaginable. For fans who have followed their journey from the Disney+ series, this feels like a proper event release. For everyone else, it is still Pedro Pascal in armour, Grogu being adorable, and a galaxy full of trouble. Honestly, that is a fairly strong argument for a cinema trip.

Netflix has released the trailer for Voicemails for Isabelle, a new romantic comedy starring Zoey Deutch and Nick Robinson, ahead of its arrival on the streamer on 19 June. Written and directed by Leah McKendrick, Voicemails for Isabelle follows Jill, played by Deutch, as she copes with the death of her sister Isabelle by continuing to leave voicemails on her old number. The messages cover everything from Jill’s chaotic life as an aspiring pastry chef in San Francisco to the grief she cannot quite say out loud anywhere else.

Voicemails for Isabelle. Ciara Bravo as Isabelle in Voicemails for Isabelle. Cr. David Astorga/Netflix © 2026

Things take an unexpected turn when Wes, an Austin real estate agent played by Robinson, is assigned Isabelle’s old number for his new work phone. Without Jill knowing, Wes begins receiving her hilariously confessional messages and slowly finds himself falling for the woman behind them.

The trailer leans into the film’s rom-com-ready set-up, with Jill and Wes connecting from opposite sides of the country before he makes his feelings known and turns up in San Francisco. Naturally, things become more complicated when Wes delays telling Jill the bittersweet reason he was drawn to her.

The film also stars Ciara Bravo as Isabelle, whose absence sits at the heart of Jill’s story, with Nick Offerman appearing as Chef Bastien, Jill’s difficult boss. Lukas Gage, Harry Shum Jr., Megan Danso, Toby Sandeman, Spencer Lord and Gil Bellows also feature, while McKendrick appears in the film as Breeda, Wes’s friend.

The trailer has a slightly old-school rom-com feeling beneath its modern set-up, and it seems happy to nod towards that. Harry Shum Jr.’s Andy jokes that Jill and Wes’ set-up is “like a sick reboot of You’ve Got Mail,” while Jill admits in one voicemail that she has a fantasy of someone coming to sit beside her, “like I’m Meg Ryan.” Right on cue, Wes appears at her bench and asks, “Is this seat taken?”

Voicemails for Isabelle. (L-R) Zoey Deutch as Jill and Nick Robinson as Wes in Voicemails for Isabelle. Cr. Diyah Pera/Netflix © 2026

For CultureCues, this looks exactly like the kind of Netflix rom-com we will happily curl up with. Zoey Deutch has already proven with Set It Up that she knows how to carry a funny and emotionally sincere love story, and Voicemails for Isabelle seems to lean fully into that strength. The trailer balances grief, awkward humour and genuine sweetness surprisingly well, while the warm visuals and long-distance connection between Jill and Wes give the whole thing a cosy, heartfelt pull. Honestly, we already know this is probably going to make us laugh, cry and possibly do both at the same time. Either way, Voicemails for Isabelle has our attention, and we are very much looking forward to this one.

Pictures

Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor’s upcoming sci-fi thriller The End of Oak Street is already shaping up to be one of the more curious cinema releases of 2026. The first teaser trailer arrived earlier this spring, but rather than treating this as a standard trailer drop, The End of Oak Street feels like the kind of film worth keeping on the radar as summer cinema starts to take shape. Directed by It Follows filmmaker David Robert Mitchell, the Warner Bros. release will arrive in UK cinemas on 14 August 2026.

A mysterious cosmic event tears Oak Street from suburbia, leaving the Platt family and their neighbourhood stranded somewhere unknown. Their quiet street suddenly ends at a cliff edge, with dense wilderness beyond it and no clear way back home. That alone would be enough to cause panic. Then come the dinosaurs.

The teaser keeps plenty hidden, but the core image is brilliant: an ordinary suburban neighbourhood suddenly dropped into a world that feels vast and completely wrong. That simple “what would you do?” hook gives the film a natural sense of tension before the bigger sci-fi mystery even begins.

Hathaway and McGregor lead the cast, with Maisy Stella and Christian Convery also starring. David Robert Mitchell writes and directs, with J.J. Abrams among the producers, which gives the project an extra sense of scale. Between the family survival story and the strange sci-fi mystery at its centre, The End of Oak Street already feels like one to watch.

Image Credit: © Photo Courtesy Warner Bros. Pictures

For CultureCues, the appeal is in that contrast between the familiar and the absurd. A family drama trapped inside a cosmic disaster movie. A quiet street suddenly turned into a survival zone. Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor trying to keep everyone alive. It is exactly the kind of big-screen idea that could become gloriously strange, surprisingly emotional, or hopefully both.

NEON has released the first teaser trailer for Hope, the new thriller from The Wailing director Na Hong-jin that premiered in competition at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. The film stars Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung and Squid Game breakout Hoyeon alongside an international cast that includes Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, Taylor Russell and Cameron Britton.

Set in the remote South Korean village of Hope Harbor near the DMZ, the story follows police officers, hunters and villagers after a mysterious creature begins terrorising the area. As communication collapses and fear spreads through the isolated community, the situation spirals into violence. The teaser keeps most of the creature hidden, instead building through atmosphere, panic and flashes of large-scale destruction. Which, honestly, only makes the whole thing more unsettling.

According to Cannes details, the film runs for 160 minutes and blends sci-fi, horror and mystery elements on a much bigger scale than Na’s previous work. The director previously described the project as exploring human conflict and disaster “on a cosmic scale.”

Hope marks Na Hong-jin’s first feature since 2016’s The Wailing, the acclaimed folk-horror thriller that became one of the defining genre films of the last decade. Early reactions from Cannes have already been extremely strong, with reports describing loud audience reactions throughout the screening and one of the festival’s biggest standing ovations so far this year.

The film also appears to continue Na’s fascination with communities falling apart under pressure, where fear, suspicion and helplessness often become just as dangerous as whatever threat is lurking nearby.

For CultureCues, Hope already feels like one of those films people are going to spend months obsessing over online. A Na Hong-jin horror epic with cosmic dread, a stacked international cast and a 160-minute runtime that reportedly gets increasingly unhinged as it goes on? Yes, we are seated. Nervously, but seated.

Hope is set to release in cinemas this autumn. Watch the teaser trailer below.

Nearly 13 years after the last film, Grown Ups 3 is officially happening. Netflix has confirmed that Adam Sandler and his longtime comedy collaborators are returning for a third instalment in the Grown Ups franchise, with the film set to stream exclusively on the platform.

Sandler and Tim Herlihy are once again writing the screenplay after previously teaming up on Grown Ups 2, Happy Gilmore 2 and Hubie Halloween. Plot details are still being kept quiet for now, but the announcement already has fans wondering what kind of chaos the group will stumble into this time around.

The original Grown Ups was released in 2010 and followed five childhood friends reuniting over the Fourth of July weekend, decades after leaving school and their basketball glory days behind. Alongside Sandler, the franchise starred Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade and Rob Schneider, with Salma Hayek, Maya Rudolph, Maria Bello and Joyce Van Patten also appearing across the films.

The sequel, released in 2013, saw Sandler’s character Lenny move his family back to his hometown, reuniting the group for another round of increasingly ridiculous suburban disasters, awkward rivalries and one particularly memorable deer encounter.

While the full cast for Grown Ups 3 has not yet been confirmed, Netflix noted that the previous films featured a huge roster of familiar Sandler collaborators including Steve Buscemi, Nick Swardson, Taylor Lautner, Jackie Sandler and Oliver Hudson. The new film will be directed by Kyle Newacheck, who previously worked with Sandler on Happy Gilmore 2. Sandler, Jackie Sandler, Jack Giarraputo and Tim Herlihy are producing, with Kevin Grady and Judit Maull serving as executive producers.

For CultureCues, Grown Ups 3 taps straight into a kind of comedy that was built on familiar faces, low-stakes madness and friends clearly having the best time making each other laugh. Netflix bringing the gang back together honestly feels a little bit like the early 2010s just wandered back into the group chat.

No release date has been confirmed for Grown Ups 3 yet.
