Production is officially under way in London on Alien: Earth Season 2, with Disney+ confirming three new additions to the cast. Tracey Ullman, Sam Spruell and Jerome Flynn have joined the second season of FX’s sci-fi horror series, created for television by Noah Hawley. They join previously announced newcomer Peter Dinklage, with the next season set to stream exclusively on Disney+ in the UK.
The new casting gives Season 2 another major boost following the show’s renewal. Ullman is best known for The Tracey Ullman Show, the series that launched The Simpsons, and has won seven Emmys across her career. She has also appeared in Mrs. America, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Netflix film Steve.
Spruell reunites with Hawley after previously appearing in Fargo. He recently starred in HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the latest series set in the Game of Thrones universe, and also has upcoming film roles in Insidious and Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars. Flynn is best known to many viewers as Bronn in Game of Thrones, with recent credits including the Yellowstone prequel 1923. His wider screen work includes Black Mirror, Ripper Street and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.
Sydney Chandler returns for Season 2 alongside Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, Babou Ceesay, Samuel Blenkin, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Adrian Edmondson, David Rysdahl, Moe Bar-El and Sandra Yi Sencindiver.
Disney+ has not yet revealed plot details for Season 2, but the series is set in 2120, in a corporate-controlled future where humans live alongside cyborgs, synthetics and hybrids. Season 1 followed Wendy, played by Chandler, and a group of tactical soldiers after the deep-space research vessel USCSS Maginot crash-landed on Earth, bringing them face-to-face with a terrifying new threat.
The series is created by Hawley, whose previous credits include Fargo and Legion. Season 2 is now filming in London, although Disney+ has not yet announced a release date.
For CultureCues, this is a strong update for Alien: Earth. The series already had a seriously impressive cast, and adding Tracey Ullman, Sam Spruell and Jerome Flynn makes Season 2 even more interesting. With production now under way in London, the Xenomorphs are officially getting closer again… Lovely news for sci-fi fans. Terrible news for anyone in their path.
