The Snuts have announced their fourth studio album, Joy in Short Moments, alongside the release of its uplifting lead single, “Defibrillator.” The new record will arrive on 23 October 2026 through Happy Artist Records in partnership with Virgin Music Group. Produced by frontman Jack Cochrane and Scotty Anderson, “Defibrillator” was inspired by the idea of a living wake, where people gather to celebrate someone’s life while they are still there to experience it.
The drum-led track encourages listeners to be present for the people around them and find happiness in shared experiences. Cochrane described it as a conscious decision “to live and love more,” adding that the song celebrates the collective while putting everyday worries into perspective.
Joy in Short Moments was written over two years during a period of major change for Cochrane, who moved back home and became a father. After making the band’s previous records while constantly touring, he found himself reconnecting with life away from the road. “Success, failure, parenthood and loss all found their way into these songs,” Cochrane said. He described the album as the sound of returning to what matters and learning to recognise meaning in the smaller parts of life.

The 11-track album features “In Motion,” “Youth Ain’t Easy,” “Defibrillator,” “Joy in Short Moments,” “PTS,” “Get Up, Get Out,” “Country Music,” “Summer Rain,” “Motherlands,” “Warsaw” and closing track “Little Marathon Man.” The titles alone hint at the mix of movement and reflection behind this new chapter.
Joy in Short Moments follows the West Lothian band’s 2024 album Millennials, which reached Number Two on the UK Albums Chart. Their 2021 debut W.L. entered at Number One, with all three of their albums to date reaching the UK Top Three.
For CultureCues, new music from The Snuts will always receive a particularly warm Scottish welcome. “Defibrillator” brings their familiar live energy to a song about choosing connection and appreciating the people around you. Having seen the band perform numerous times, we are already looking forward to hearing this one with a crowd, and to discovering the rest of the album in October.
The Snuts will perform at TRNSMT on 20 June, with further autumn tour dates set to be announced. Joy in Short Moments will be released on 23 October 2026. You can pre-order the album here.
