Pulp have announced Pulp: What Do You Do for an Encore?, a new film directed by Sing and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy filmmaker Garth Jennings. Narrated by Jarvis Cocker, the film will premiere exclusively on MUBI this autumn, bringing the band’s story back to the screen.

The 90-minute project charts the Sheffield band’s journey from obscurity to becoming one of the defining names in British music. It combines footage from Pulp’s two sold-out concerts at London’s O2 Arena in June 2025 with four decades of previously unseen archive material.

The concerts formed part of the tour supporting More, Pulp’s first studio album in 24 years. The film will feature 20 songs spanning familiar hits and deeper cuts from across the band’s catalogue. MUBI has compared the project to celebrated concert films Stop Making Sense and The Last Waltz, bringing live performances and archive footage together to explore the band’s history and place in British culture.

Jennings has a long creative relationship with Pulp. He directed the music video for “Help the Aged” in 1997 and later helped develop the staging for the band’s 2023 reunion tour before filming the O2 shows.

A companion album titled Live! has also been announced, featuring recordings from the two London concerts. The record includes songs from More alongside favourites including “Disco 2000,” “Babies,” “This Is Hardcore” and “Common People.”

“A concert is an event where songs come back to life. That’s why this album is called Live!.”

Jarvis Cocker

For CultureCues, a Pulp film narrated by Jarvis Cocker and filled with decades of unseen footage is already a very strong proposition. Jennings’ history with the band also makes him a fitting choice to bring their performances and story together. We will happily return for this encore.

Live! will be released through Rough Trade Records on 28 August 2026, while Pulp: What Do You Do for an Encore? arrives exclusively on MUBI this autumn.
