Every Year After is now streaming on Prime Video, bringing Carley Fortune’s bestselling romance novel Every Summer After to the screen. All eight episodes of the series are available from today, 10 June, making it a perfect new binge-watch for anyone still emotionally attached to first-love stories, lakeside summers and the kind of romance that refuses to stay in the past.
Based on Fortune’s hugely popular novel, Every Year After is set in Barry’s Bay, a small lakeside town where childhood memories and unfinished feelings come rushing back. The story follows Persephone “Percy” Fraser, who returns after a surprise call from someone she has not spoken to in years. Back in Barry’s Bay, Percy is forced to confront the heartbreak, memories and choices she thought she had left behind.
The series moves between past and present, tracing Percy’s connection with brothers Sam and Charlie Florek across several years. Through flashbacks, viewers see the bond that forms during their summers together and the first love that continues to shape Percy’s adult life.

Sadie Soverall, known for Saltburn, stars as Percy, while Matt Cornett, known for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series and Summer of 69, plays Sam. Michael Bradway stars as Charlie, with Aurora Perrineau as Chantal, Abigail Cowen as Delilah and Joseph Chiu as Jordie. Elisha Cuthbert also appears in the series.
Every Summer After spent 16 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list and has sold more than one million copies to date, making it a major romance success. The novel also became a BookTok favourite, with the book’s hashtag attracting more than 81 million views on TikTok.

Fortune, whose other novels include Meet Me at the Lake, This Summer Will Be Different, One Golden Summer and Our Perfect Storm, serves as an executive producer on the adaptation. Amy B. Harris adapted the series and serves as showrunner. Harris previously worked on Sex and the City, The Carrie Diaries, Gossip Girl, The Comeback, Designated Survivor and Prime Video’s The Wilds.

For CultureCues, Every Year After feels like an easy recommendation for fans of The Summer I Turned Pretty. It has the lakeside setting, the childhood connection and the lingering question of whether first love ever really leaves you. There is also something very watchable about stories that move between past and present, especially when they explore how one summer can keep shaping someone’s life years later.
If you love romance with nostalgia, complicated history and a little bit of “what if?”, this one is probably going straight onto your watchlist. Summer romance season is officially open!
